You may have heard of the Birds of Vermont Museum - that converted barn on Sherman Hollow Road, where almost 500 woodcarvings of Vermont birds (and a few others) reside. You may already know that the museum hosts school field trips and elder tours. But have you seen us? Really seen us? We have something for everyone: pre-schoolers, home schoolers, hikers, naturalists, birders, carvers, artist, photographers, book lovers, early risers, night owls, readers, and poets.to name a few. What suits you?
Right now at the museum we have a photography exhibit by Vermont nature photographer Heather Forcier. Ted Scheu, "The poetry guy", gave a workshop for young poets last month. We love having little kids come to our monthly "Storytime in the Nestlings Nook": books, crafts, questions, and more. Somewhat older kids delight in our weekly "Sundays for Fledglings", where we think, explore, dance, draw, read, and puzzle about birds from their eggs to their ecosystems. Bring your kids too; we have room! From May through October we also host weekly carving demonstrations, welcoming everyone from the experienced to the idly curious. Our special events this fall include monthly bird monitoring walks, the nationally offered Museum Day, our annual fall festival/used book sale, and a Keeping Track program by "the Woods Scientist" Sue Morse. Talk a walk on our trails, rest by the pond or near the Robert Frost apple trees, stroll down the brook trail. Wander over from Green Mountain Audubon and rest by our viewing window, watching birds at our feeders.
We're open 10-4 every day (holidays too), May 1 to October 31. We hope to see you soon!
