Attorney General William H. Sorrell issued his Security Breach Guidance to provide businesses and state agencies with information about how to best comply with Vermont’s Security Breach Notification law that became effective 1/1/2007. A “security breach” is defined as the unauthorized acquisition or access of computerized data that compromises the security, confidentiality, or integrity of personal information maintained by the state agency or business.
The text of his Guide is here .
Many business's computer records include customer credit card information, and should they discover that someone has breached their systems, they would have to follow the Vermont Attorney General’s guidelines. I expect there are several other businesses and professionals in RABA territory that are similar in regard to keeping credit card data on their computers, and should check out this guide completely.
