Checkered House Bridge Closure

Construction Begins on Route 2 "Checkered House Bridge" in Richmond.

Construction trailers arriving in early March will be among the first signs that re-construction of the "Checkered House Bridge" on Route 2 in Richmond over the Winooski River has begun. The Vermont Agency of Transportation has awarded this $13.9 million contract to the design/ build team of Harrison & Burrowes Bridge Constructors of Glenmont, New York and CHA to widen the existing bridge while preserving much of its steel structure. One of their first tasks will be to install a temporary bridge by this summer so that vehicles can safely cross the river while work is being done on the 1929 bridge. Until the temporary bridge is opened, travel may be reduced at times to one lane.

The first lane closures will occur the week of March 7th and will last for one week (weather permitting).

Up to date construction information will be available at http://www.511vt.com
