Beacon Light Grange wins Champlain Valley Expo Prize

grangeBeacon Light Grange brought home the Blue Ribbon for the Best Grange Exhibit at the 2010 Champlain Valley Expo. The exhibit was entitled "Partnerships" and detailed the partnerships that keep Beacon Light strong in the community.

"We do everything from preparing Town Meeting lunch to distributing dictionaries to third graders in Richmond and Huntington," said Beacon Light President, Darcelene Lewis-Wedge. "We have some strong partners in the community, including RABA, the Richmond Parade and Fireworks Committee, Hale and Hearty, Community Christmas Baskets and Our Community Cares Camp."

Grangers help others with their projects, like knitting helmet liners for US troops in Afghanistan, or preemie hats for babies. Grange members most recently made an appearance at the Richmond Farmer's Market on Sept 17, when they had painter's caps and canvas lunch bags for children to decorate.

"The Grange means fun for everyone," said Grange Vice-President Jane Van Landingham. "We have fun no matter where we go and we enjoy helping others."

Beacon Light Grange meets twice a month for a pot luck meal and meeting with a fun or educational program included. Singles and families with children are welcome. The Grange also lobbies the legislature on issues of importance to rural communities.
