Wednesday - July 7, 2010.
We never expected to have berries ripe and ready for picking as early as this, but we will be opening for the season this weekend, starting Saturday, July 10.
It was a roller coaster spring starting at Easter with 80 degree weather, then late April with 2 feet of snow. You will see its effects on the blueberry bushes which had leaves already at that time and the branches were all bent to the ground. Once again they are bent to the ground with berries!
If we had not had that hard freeze May 11, we would probably have been open even sooner and with even more berries. Despite all that, we have a great crop to be picked so come out and get the first of the season berries, which are always the biggest!
If you don't want the big ones, tell the staff you're looking for smaller berries for baking and they'll find those for you too.
We have expanded hours this year with picking both Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9 - noon in addition to the evenings.
Here's the full schedule which begins Saturday, July 10:
- Saturday 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
- Sunday 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
- Monday (closed)
- Tuesday 9 a.m. - noon and 5 p.m. - sunset
- Wednesday 10 a.m. - sunset
- Thursday 9 a.m. - noon and 5 p.m. - sunset
- Friday 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Call 434-3387 or check the web site at http://owlsheadfarm.com just before you leave home to make sure it's not raining up here.
Hope to see you Soon!
