| Richmond Area Teen Center - Volunteer Request |
The RATC Nest, Inc. (Richmond Area Teen Center) became a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization in 2006, although fund raising activities began prior to that. Through grants, fund raising, and donations, we raised more than $40,000 and opened in February 2008. Our goal is to keep kids off the streets, away from loitering in front of local businesses, and free of drugs and alcohol. We are located in the basement of the existing Town Center building. The center is primarily open to teens in the Chittenden East School District. The space is can also be used by seniors, youngsters, and community groups. Unfortunately, attendance has dwindled and so have our board members. We have had two board members officially resign. The remaining board members don't have as much time to devote, personal lives have become increasingly busy, and our children will be going off to college soon.
We are interested in working with the other folks or another organization to help them take over the teen center space. Teens seem to attend more when a program is offered. Someone is needed with more time to coordinate these self-sufficient programs. Birthday parties and scheduled events are very popular. The only expenses are the lease and liability insurance. Regular fund raising includes Adults/Teens Basketball, 4th of July Mini-Golf, and the Duck Race. We need your help and your ideas to succeed. Please come to a meeting to talk about future plans for the RATC Nest on Wednesday, June 22, 2011at 7:00 p.m. in the basement of the Town Center. Invite your friends, committee members, coworkers, and anyone you think would enjoy working with teens. The RATC Nest is an exciting place and I hope that it continues to be so for many generations.
