Irene President approves major disaster declaration in wake of Irene. Just hours after Gov. Peter Shumlin requested a major disaster declaration from President Barack Obama for public and individual assistance in the wake of Tropical Storm Irene, the White House late today announced approval of the aid – public assistance to help with infrastructure repairs in all Vermont counties except Grand Isle, and individual assistance for homeowners and businesses in counties where early assessments have been completed. Because assessments continue in some counties – particularly in hard-hit southern Vermont – a supplemental request will follow to add those areas, as well. Read more... VYCC Harvesting the Sun The Richmond, Vermont-based Vermont Youth Conservation Corps (VYCC) will soon begin harvesting the sun for solar energy. Through a new solar orchard, the nationally renowned VYCC will soon derive the power for its conservation, education, and agricultural programs from the sun. By installing these panels, the VYCC will also connect two iconic monitor barns in a contemporary way. Read more... RABA Silent Auction For the fifth year RABA will be holding a Silent Auction at the RABA Holiday Market on Saturday December 3rd. All proceeds from the Silent Auction go towards funding scholarships for graduating MMU students seeking further education. We have been successful enough to raise money for two $1,500 scholarships the last few years.
