The Richmond Farmers' Market (RFM) was bom about 15 years ago by a grassroots group of local farmers. They set up tables in a pasture for several years before moving to their current home on beautiful Volunteers Green in Richmond. ln 2003, the RFM received their non-profit status as a Market Cooperative. How the Richmond Farmers' Merket contributes to the community - Our primary goal is to attract vendors who provide quality products and one-on-one service. All products available at the Market are locally grown, baked or made and we are cornrnitted to the philosophy; "Buy Local and Buy Fresh." Todays society does not provide enough opportunities for members of neighboring communities to interact in a nourishing, nurturing, educational, low key and friendly environment Early on, the RFM saw the need and long term benefits of educating area families about agriculture, heallhy living, environmental issues, conservation, creative crafting community safety and the concept of 'buying local and buying fresh.' The RFM saw a need to involve children to kindle and foster heafthy life-styles, self-esteem and creativity. The RFM helps low-income families and seniors and also provides local entertainers a means to showcase their talents.
All of these elements help to create a better society and provide a place where people of all walks of life can communicate, learn and enjoy an outdoor experience. Our environment brings 'children' of all ages together for an afternoon of sharing an experience that will hopefully have a lifelong impact. For l9 weeks from mid-June though mid-October, on Fridays fiom 3:00 to 6:30, the Market provides programs and events featuring the aforernentioned. The variety of our programs and events attract many different people who otherwise might not be exposed to these many educational, wholesome and family friendly venues.
